2013年 12月 22日 Big Cleaning

Hi, everyone!!

Today’s blogger is Yuta Temmyo.

Yesterday, I did a major house cleaning.

“Major cleaning” means that people clean the unusual place, for example ceiling, the back of the TV, refrigerator and shelf … and so on.

Why do we clean everything? I googled this word “Big cleaning.”( in Japanese “Oosouji”)

This word is distinctive Japanese word and the custom of all Japanese people. That is our traditional value. That is same as before.

“Oosouji” came from “Susubarai.”

This word means that people dust all place in house and they hope “Gokokuhoujyou”, they will harvest well next year.

During the Edo Period, it was December 13th that people cleaned. So all people did big clean at same day.

I said “Oosouji” is “distinctive” Japanese word, otherwise, there is not custom in other counties.

My friends said to me “You do clean in cold, don’t you?”

But, people in other countries may do big clean on March and April.

Even though much time has passed, we should keep good Japanese traditional cultures.

Thank you for Reading
