2013年 9月 11日 First half of my summer

Hello everyone! This is Taro Oka from Toshin Business school!

I currently work here at Toshin Business school as a coaching advisor.

Although we are almost nearing the middle of september, I am still in my summer vacation. So today, let me share what I experienced during my first half of my summer break.

For two weeks during August, I went to Beijing to participate in a business contest that is held annualy among Japan, Korea and China.

In the business contest I participated in, we had 30teams each consisting of one participant from the three nations. (Japan, Korea, China) The contest lasted for about 10days and during the period, we spent about 10hours every day making our business plan. For the contest, we had to come up with a business that manages to have a positive environmental impact and this requirement was something that was extremely hard for us to meet.

We faced countless difficulties while we were making our business plan but out of all of them, cultural difference and language were something that we had struggled the most to  deal with. The three of us each had strong cultural background from different countries and it had a huge influence on our ways of thinking. Due to this difference, we faced many conflicts often leading to moments of awkward silence.

However, after spending more than a week to achieve the same goal, we gradually started understand each other’s ways of thinking. It was a long and enduring process but the difficulties we faced for this contest were something that could not be solved without serious confrontations with each other.

It was a great experience for me to participate in this business contest where I managed to learn something that could only be learnt through time and effort. If any of you are still struggling to find good ways to spend your summer vacation, why not spend some time outside Japan and interact with someone of diffirent backgroudns? It will be a great change!

See you all for now!
