2013年 12月 21日 Weird pool rule…

Hello! How have you been? Cold weather is coming, so I don’t wanna go out. However, we need some kind of exercise, right?

When I was in New York City, I belonged to a sports club. The gym name was “Equinox.” You can google it. For your information, “equinox” is the two times in a year when night and day are of equal length. Anyway, the gym has excellent facilities. The studio is always clean. The machines are very new models and of high quality. The staffs are very kind and helpful. They have so many programs such as: aerobics (I really don’t like, though), yoga, pilates, cardio, dance and more. Especially, the yoga class is really great. Every teacher’s quality of teaching is really high. I was a beginner, but I could become intermediate level in the classes in short period. The gyms are everywhere in Manhattan. The access is really good, so I could continue to train without being discouraged. I could make many friends there, too. I met so many interesting people there. One of them was always screaming when he lifted weights… and always wore only shorts. I was always thinking where was his shirt?? If they were in Japan, they would be really weird. However in America, that’s not such a big problem. I don’t know the exact reason why. Maybe circumstances?? very good looking?

Why I chose this gym is that it had a pool!! The pool was not so big. I think 20 meters and just 3 lanes. When I went to swim for the first time, each lane had one person. I chose one lane and started to swim. When I turned to swim back the other way, something weird happened. I and another person were face to face… “????” I just thought “why??” I asked him what the rule was in the pool. He told me if two people were in the pool, each person used just one side of the lane. In Japan, the rule is keeping to the right like driving a car. Therefore in America, only two people can swim… This rule is beyond my comprehension. I still don’t know why. I asked my native friend about this. He didn’t care so much, so I try not to think too much about it. I don’t know if this rule is for all American or jut that gym. I hope not!!
