2014年 1月 27日 Winter Olympics

Hello again. It’s Kazu here. How are you doing? I’d like to talk about my favorie Winter Olympics, and I’ll write with a thesis statement. The topic is Shizuka Arakawa.

The moment Shizuka Arakawa got an Olympic gold medal was very impressive because she overcome so many obstacles the triumph.(←This is a thesis statement) Nobody imagined she could get a gold medal. She was the only person from Japan to get a gold medal in the Olympics. Moreover, the other Japanese athletes did not get any silver or bronze medals except for her. Her career started with a bang. When she was 16 years old, she got the right to perform at the Nagano Olympics in 1998. There was just one spot open for Japanese, so she shouldered the burden of the epectations of the Japanese. Unfortunately, she could not demonstrate that she was proficient enough at skating. She was devasted. Her career looked hopeless. Although her career did continue, she was disenfranchised at the next Olympics in 2002. It must have been a miserable moment for her. She was struggling to break out of a slump. In 2000, she achieved to get a world championship title. She thought this title was the highlight of her career, so she decided to quit. She was exhausted  from being judged by the public and the media. She thought she could escape from everything, especially the media. However, she decided to enter the Torino Olymipics in 2002 because the media, the public and her fans expected her to compete. She had always suffered from the media, but the media pushed her decision. In those days, she was enough to grow up to be evaluated by the media. There was a great figure skating moment at the Torino Olympics in 2006. She could reach the climax of her career rather than the world championship. After she skated, the audience at Torino was stood and applauded her performance. She was the only person to get that kind of applause at the competition. Her achievement is really extraordinary and will never be forgotten.

Thank you for reading my essay. See you very soon!!
